Sri krishna temple, Agumbe, Shimoga District Karnataka

Agumbe is a small village located in Shimoga district, Thirthahalli taluk in the Malnad region of Karnataka, India. It is sometimes called "The Cherrapunji of the South" Agumbe is also home to some endangered reptiles and is home to King Cobra. There is a research station setup by a foreigner who does research and documentation on the rare species and King cobra.

Agumbe is a small village and there is no (proper) accommodation or Food (hotel). There is a sunset point  which is flocked by tourists during sunset.

There is a 150 year old house in the centre of Village fondly called as Doddamane. There are few rooms in Doddamane and there are 8 families(joint families) residing there. The offer accomodation and food to visitors. They do it as a service and they dont charge any rent or money for food/accommodation.

Agumbe is 335 kms from Bangalore and there is one semi deluxe overnight bus from Bangalore to Agumbe. I was in Agumbe for a holiday with my family. In the evening we went for a walk and I saw a gopuram from a distance and I told my wife. On our return we were told that it is a Krishna temple. The next day morning we left for Sri Krishna temple at 7am. When we reached the temple, it was closed.

We enquired with locals and they pointed us to Vishnu Bhattar's house. We approached bhattar's house and his wife told temple will open only at 10am. She told we can have dharsan through a small opening in the main door. We entered the temple and reached inner prakaram and did pradakshanam. We enjoyed the beauty of krishna through the small opening in the door. Suddenly Vishnu bhattar came inside the temple from the backdoor. He was very happy to see us and he asked us to wait for few minutes. He came back with key and opened the door for us. He did pooja for us and offered prasadam.

I am sharing the photos taken from my mobile phone. Please excuse if the photo quality is poor.

Agumbe can also be reached from Udupi. There are plenty of buses available and if you reach by 4 wheeler you can ask for Doddamane and have some refreshments. They dont charge you. they take whatever you offer. Ask for krishna tempel which is less than 100m from the Agumbe bus stand.
