The Gandhapudi Utsavam was started 76 years ago by Vadyar Swatchandam Krishna Iyengar when he started the Sri Vedanta Deshika Sabha at Srirangapatna.
Devotees are still privileged to witness the GandhaPudi Utsavam every year.
It started as a kind of medication to the society, when the Srirangapatna was struck with a devastating disease 'Plague', the sandalwood paste which will be served as prasadam was the effective medication to prevent from that disease.
As a mark of success it is in progress till then.
