Kalahalli Sri Lakshmivarahanatha

Kalahalli is a little known village which has a 2000 year old  and 15 feet high Sri Lakshmivarahanatha temple. This temple is currently maintained by Parakala Mutt, Mysore for last 12 years. No poojas are done to the moolavar as construction is in progress. Instead there is a single room near the temple and poojas are performed to Sri Lakshmivarahanatha Photo. I wanted to visit this temple for last 1year and proper transportation was not available as I prefer visiting temples by Public transport. The route map I got from Google was little confusing. I was in Mysore last week and my cousin asked me if I am interested to visit KRS DAM. I agreed and we left by 2 wheeler. On the way I enquired him about this temple and he told he has visited this temple few months back and we decided to visit the temple. This temple is 35kms from KRS Dam and road is very good from KRS. There are 2 villages en route and they guided us whenever we asked them. We reached the temple in 30 minutes from KRS. River Hemavathi flows near the temple. There are few villagers selling pooja items and Bricks. I was surprised and when enquired they told me that pooja is done to the brick and it is used in constructing house. We parked our 2 wheeler and went to river to take bath. It is back water of hemavathi and very nice place. We took bath and had nice dharsan. There is a person collecting donations from visitors and he offered beautiful picture of Sri Lakshmivarahanatha. I request all bhagavathas to visit this temple when you visit melkote as this temple can be reached from melkote in 1hour via pandavapura. Also there are few buses from pandavapura which stops 1km from the temple. Also please spread the message and donate liberally so that we can preserve this temple for our future generations.

Kote Varadarajar temple - Swami Desikan, Sathyagalam

I was planning to visit sathyagalam fot last few months and Last week on occasion of my son's first birthday  we visited the Kote Varadarajar Temple at Sathyagalam, Madhyarangam and T,Narasipura.

sathyagalam is 10kms from kollegal. It is a very beautiful village and Cauvery adds another feather to this village.

If you are travelling from Bangalore reach maddur and take a left on Kollegal road. You will reach Malavalli followed by Sathyagalam. The temple is 0.5kms from the bus stop.frequent buses available from Bangalore/Maddur to Kollegal which will stop at sathyagalam. Madhyarangam is less than 5kms from here. you can cover both the temples in half- a day. Bhattar stays inside the temple and you can visit the temple anytime during the day. Temple has very good toilet and bathing facilities.

Jaganmohana Ranganatha Temple Madhya Rangam

Madhyarangam is around 140 kms from Bangalore. After reaching maddur on the Bangalore-Mysore Highway, take left to join the Maddur-Kollegal road. Travel via malavali and take left at Sathyagala Hand Post to reach the temple. Cauvery flows along from Sathyagalam to Madhyarangam and branches into 2 beautiful falls.

The Shivanasamudra Falls is on the Kaveri River after the river has wound its way through the rocks and ravines of the Deccan Plateau and drops off to form waterfalls. The island town of Shivanasamudra divides the river into twin waterfalls. This creates the fourth largest island in the rivers course. A group of ancient temples are located here and there likely was a village.

This is a segmented waterfall. Segmented waterfalls occur where the water flow is broken into two or more channels before dropping over a cliff, resulting in multiple side by side waterfalls. It has an average width of 849 meters, a height of 90 m, and an average volume of 934 cubic meters / sec. The maximum recorded volume is 18,887 cubic meters / sec. It is a perennial waterfall. The time of best flow are the monsoon season of July to October.

A common misconception about these waterfalls are that the left segment is called Gaganachukki and the right segment is called Bharachukki. In reality the Bharachukki falls are a few kilometers to the south-west of the Gaganachukki falls. This is due to the Kaveri river itself splitting a few kilometers to the south into western and eastern branches. The western branch results in the twin waterfalls of Gaganachukki, whereas the eastern branch results in the Bharachukki falls. The Gaganachukki waterfalls are best viewed from the Shivanasamudra watch tower. Most of the pictures showing the twin waterfalls are taken from that location. There is another approach to the Gaganachukki falls from the Darga Hazrath Mardane Gaib. Despite warnings being posted, people climb down the rocks and attempt to view the waterfalls from behind/top, resulting in many fatal accidents. It is 139 km from the city of Bangalore.
