Badrinath Travelogue part 3

Jai badri Vishal

Thankyou all for your wonderful support for part 1 and part 2.

Part3 will help you to plan your trip to badrinath. Before that one important temple in badrinath is Garudaji temple which is close to Jeeyar mutt. Once you walk from Jeeyar mutt to Badrinath temple you will find this temple in the right side of the road. It looks like a normal house and will easily escape from our eyes. I missed it on first day. On day 2 morning, we were returning from Jeeyar mutt after having prasadam my friend stopped me and showed this temple. It was closed then.We cameback again at 9:30am and it was open. This temple is maintained by a 90year old sadhu who lives in badrinath and takes care of temple. He speaks proper tamil and I request you to help him if you happen to visit this temple.

There are many other temples in badrinath. If you stay for 2 or 3 days you can visit all these temples. If you are visiting Mana village I suggest you to take taxi or travel in your own vehicle instead of walking as there are many places to see in Mana. If you go by walk you will be exhausted by the time you reach Mana and Ganesh gufa, vyas gufa, bhim phul and Saraswathi river(orgin) are located more than kms from Mana and the path is very steep.

There are many dharamsalas and lodges in badrinath, if you travel through travel operator they will take care of accommodation. In case if you are traveling on your own you can plan you trip to reach badrinath in daytime and look out for proper accommodation. The temperature in badrinath will be less than 10 degree in day time and drops below 5 degree in the night. You can check out for rooms with heater facility and hot water facility. Please carry heavy woolen clothes as nights are very cold and difficult to manage with ordinary clothes or blankets. You have to carry essential medicines. There are few medical shops in badrinath and they are located near taxi stand/token counter. Every medical shop has a oxygen cylinder facility as some people suffer from breathing problems due to high altitude.

There is a SBI ATM very near to badrinath temple and it was working properly. It is better to carry enough cash. There is only BSNL network in badrinath and only cellone works properly. If you are a Vodafone subscriber you may get signal occasionally. you have to switch off and switch on your mobile if your cell phone displays emergency calls only or No access to Network.

There are many sevas and you have to book in advance to perform the seva. so plan in advance about the seva you wish to perform before you reach badrinath. The tickets for evening sevas are available in the morning from 5.30am. The tickets for morning sevas has to be purchased previous evening. Also confirm the timings of seva before you leave the counter. I purchased tickets for karpoora arthi which was at 6pm. I was asked to report at the temple at 4.30pm and the seva was completed by 5pm.

You may face many challenges in reaching badrinath and you need not worry. Just pray to badrinath and he will take care of everything and provide a wonderful dharsan.
