Shri Santhaana Venu Gopala Puram
Photo courtesy : Murali Ravi kumar
Sri Venugopala Puram located on the Thiruttani - Sholinghur road at about 10 KM from
Sholinghur. This is a very ancient temple with Vadakalai Sampradhayam and Vaiganasa Agamam.
The Moolavar is a very rare statute, Sri Santhana Venu gopala swamy with a Cow beautifully sculptured in one single Stone along with Rukmini, Sathyabhama on either side. The temple has been neglected for many years and one Shri Ramanujachariar, who took the initiative to renovate the temple. HH Srimath Andavan Swamy gave his blessings for the Mahasamprokshanam, which was
performed on 6th Nov 2003 in a grand manner.
In the temple along with Alwars, Sri Ramanujar and Swamy Desikan idols were existing all these years.

Tirubuvanai thothatri nadha perumel
The antiquity of the village goes back to the times of Paranthaga Cholan
1(907-955 AD). It was called as Veeranarayana Vinnagaram after the
title of Paranthagar I. The old name of the was Tirubuvanai Mahadevi
Chadurvedi Mangalam, named after the Paranthagar's Queen. The lake of
this village was called Kokkilanadi- Pereri, named after another wife of
Paranthagar. This is an AEL stone temple displaying the characteristic
plinth mouldings, niches and pilasters. There are small but
interesting panels around the sanctum depicting scenes from Ramayana
and Bhagavata. There are a number of chola inscriptions in this temple
throwing light on the political, social and cultural life of the
village. The temple is under the control of ASI, and very well
maintained.
I was engrossed by the smile of Sri Totadrinathar.
The lord blessed Guru and Sukran at this sthalam with Sinmudra. This sthalam has the powers of navagrahas.
How to reach:
Tirubuvanai is situated 23 kms from Puducherry on the Puducherry- Villupuram highway. There are frequent buses on this route, get down at the main road and walk half a km to reach the temple.
The Bhattachariar is living close to the temple and is courteous, feel free to call him at his residence.
Thanks to Sudharsen Vaikanasam for the photos and information.
